Master Thesis: Performance Calculation Agent for Gas Turbine Field Performance Testing
A Snapshot of Your Day
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to write your master thesis on a subject that combines your interest in the energy business, specifically thermodynamic calculations, along with your interest in IT and programming?
You will explore test result calculation and data handling in a modern IT environment with guidance from the Field Performance Test team. The FPT team supports our projects and customers in performance testing on our sites around the world. You will be supervised by a member of the FPT team, working cross-functionally and collaborating with R&D Measurement & Instrumentation Systems, R&D Performance organization, and the Service organization.
Field performance tests are used to verify the performance of gas turbines, steam turbines, and power plants at customer sites globally. Your task will be to prototype a performance result calculation agent that connects site performance-test data with a model-based correction program using agent programming and Python.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Explore the existing field performance-test workflow, data interfaces, and calculation tools.
- Conduct a literature study on structuring test databases with a focus on metadata, naming structure, and information flow.
- Develop a concept for connecting site performance-test data with the model-based correction program using Python agent programming.
- Create functionality for automated preliminary performance calculations during field performance testing.
- Compare gas turbine thermodynamic models to site performance test data to identify measurement problems, data inconsistencies, and possible machine-related deviations.
- Present the developed solution and results to the Field Performance Test team and relevant stakeholders.
What You Bring
- Suitable for students in their final year of studies in mechanical or energy-oriented engineering with programming and IT knowledge.
- Interest in thermodynamics, gas turbine technology, programming, data analysis, and automation.
- Programming experience in Python or a similar language is beneficial.
- An analytical and structured approach, with curiosity and a willingness to learn new tools and engineering methods.
- Enjoyment in working with different cultures and collaborating with colleagues in an international environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a self-driven, problem-solving mindset.
