Position Summary
The CNC Machinist/Operator operates and programs machines such as lathes, mills, and grinders that are controlled by a computer to produce precision metal, plastic parts, and other materials. To produce high-quality products the machinist/operator sets up numerical computer control (CNC) machines, write and test programs, and adjusts as needed. Produces production parts to the required tolerances and quantities.
Duties & Responsibilities
· Set-up and operates CNC machines and tools
· Translate blueprints into computer commands to program the machines according to specifications of work orders.
· Fabricates, repairs, and reconstructs mechanical parts and tooling using blueprints, drawings, and other specifications.
· Plans the sequence of tasks to complete a job and monitors production, adjusts settings as needed.
· Troubleshoots and identifies problems. Performs minor repairs and adjustments.
· Follows directions and produces required quantity of parts.
· Works on different types of equipment to carry out a particular phase of the production cycle.
· Produces parts within required tolerances. Works safely.
· Take care of routine machine maintenance and keep work area in neat condition.
· Follows all safety rules regarding machine operation and proper guarding.
· Ensures department success through on-time delivery of parts, overall quality and customer satisfaction.
· Alerts Supervisor of any critical issues.
· Participate in the development of standards of excellence and check points of work and work processes.
· Special projects or duties as assigned or required.
Education & Experience:
· High School graduate, certification, or equivalent.
· 2 – 4 years cutting experience.
· Bi-lingual English/Spanish helpful.
· Must have knowledge of the basic use of small power tools and hand tools.
· Must be mechanically inclined.
· Good written and verbal communications skills.
· Must understand work instructions and interpret and communicate drawings and bill of materials.
· Able to read and comprehend simple and complex instructions, correspondence, and memos.
· Able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
· Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in different units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Able to compute rates and rations.
· Able to define problems, collect data, establish acts and draw valid conclusions. Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram or schedule forms.
· Good leadership skills – i.e. makes decisions based on established company standards, assembly practices and quality requirements.
· Must have full knowledge and demonstrate understanding of all cutting practices and procedures.
