Job Description
JōbSource is hiring a Maintenance Manager for a food processing company in Vernon, CA. The Maintenance Manager owns the organization's overall maintenance goals, strategies, and objectives, and oversees and directs the work of maintenance supervisors across 1st and 2nd shifts. This is a hands-on leadership role, spending roughly 80 percent of the time on the production floor. The Maintenance Manager creates the maintenance policies, procedures, and SOPs for the organization, including how the business meets or exceeds OSHA and other agency requirements, and builds the process for how repairs and maintenance tasks are assigned, completed, and reported. This role ensures all key performance indicators are met, including equipment downtime, line setup, preventative maintenance, and work order completion, and promotes the continuing training of Good Maintenance Practices.
This position is Monday to Saturday, with schedule flexing to shift and off-shift needs, and reports directly to the President and VP of Operations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Set overall maintenance department goals, processes, and procedures to accomplish company objectives
- Create and maintain SOPs that align the department with company expectations
- Manage, coach, and develop maintenance supervisors, leads, and technicians on 1st and 2nd shifts, including training and professional development
- Maintain and update the preventive maintenance system and procedures to keep day-to-day operations running smoothly
- Review and evaluate the work of supervisors and technicians through timely performance reviews
- Direct the departmental work plan; assign work activities, projects, and programs; monitor workflow
- Build a cohesive team within maintenance and with cross-functional teams in other departments; coordinate departmental activities and communication between management and staff
- Study and recommend technology, procedures, and practices to improve operational efficiency with a continuous improvement mindset
- Ensure work order and preventative maintenance records are turned in daily
- Ensure strict adherence to break and lunch schedules, avoiding 5th hour lunches while maintaining department coverage
- Perform safety and food safety/sanitation audits and participate as an active member of the safety, quality, and food safety committees
- Promote a safety-first culture and oversee Emergency Response for the maintenance department
- Interview potential staff; prioritize, assign, and review work; prepare employee performance evaluations; support succession planning
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive management experience with a stable work history
- Food industry experience
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Hands-on leadership style, comfortable spending 80 percent of time in production
- Strategic and visionary, with a proactive rather than reactive mindset
- Continuous improvement mentality
- Experience creating SOPs, policies, and procedures
- Available Monday to Saturday; Saturdays required
