Cost Accountant
About the Opportunity
LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a growing manufacturing organization in Houston to hire a Cost Accountant / Senior Cost Accountant. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who wants to take ownership of cost and inventory accounting while helping improve processes within a growing operation.
The company has experienced significant growth in manufacturing activity following a new strategic partnership, creating increased demand across its operations. This position will play an important role in ensuring that financial inventory records accurately reflect physical inventory across multiple manufacturing facilities.
This is a particularly strong opportunity for someone who enjoys identifying inefficiencies, improving processes, and having a voice in how the cost accounting function evolves.
What You'll Be Doing
Own day-to-day cost accounting and manufacturing accounting activities.
Maintain accurate costing and inventory information across multiple manufacturing facilities.
Support inventory reconciliations, cycle counts, and physical inventory activities.
Ensure financial inventory records accurately reflect inventory movement across four manufacturing facilities.
Support the company's transition from FIFO to average costing.
Analyze existing cost accounting processes and recommend improvements.
Identify opportunities to automate or streamline currently manual accounting processes.
Partner closely with accounting and manufacturing personnel to investigate and resolve inventory and costing discrepancies.
Work within Microsoft Dynamics GP / Great Plains, while gaining exposure to a potential future ERP implementation.
Assist with improving spreadsheets, reporting, and accounting workflows through technology and automation.
Travel periodically to manufacturing facilities, approximately 10-15%.
What We're Looking For
2+ years of cost accounting experience, ideally within a manufacturing environment.
Hands-on experience with standard costing.
Knowledge of average costing is highly preferred.
Strong understanding of manufacturing inventory and cost flows.
Experience supporting physical inventory and/or cycle counting.
Strong Excel and analytical skills.
Comfortable working with manual processes while identifying opportunities for improvement.
Ability to take ownership and operate effectively within a lean, growing accounting team.
Curious, ambitious, and willing to challenge existing processes when a better solution exists.
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Dynamics GP / Great Plains experience is a plus, but not required.
Experience transitioning between costing methodologies.
ERP implementation or systems-conversion exposure.
Interest in AI, automation, and process improvement tools, including platforms such as Claude or similar technologies.
Manufacturing, industrial, steel, energy, or other inventory-intensive industry experience.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This isn't a role where you'll simply inherit a process and be expected to maintain the status quo. The leadership team is specifically looking for someone who can bring real cost accounting knowledge, challenge inefficient processes, and help strengthen the function as the organization grows.
You'll have the opportunity to:
Join a business experiencing significant manufacturing growth.
Take meaningful ownership of the cost accounting function.
Work closely with accounting and operations leadership.
Help transition the organization toward average costing.
Introduce efficiencies and automation into manual processes.
Gain exposure to a potential ERP transformation within the next 2-3 years.
Grow with a lean accounting organization where your work will have visibility and impact.
