Description
The Catering Specialist is responsible for coordinating and improving assigned catering business operations across Foodservice, Online Ordering, Special Events, corporate accounts, and everyday Guest orders. The position evaluates catering demand, profitability, service performance, and operating processes; develops recommendations and, within delegated authority, makes decisions about catering program execution, client solutions, resource allocation, and business development. The Catering Specialist partners with Catering leadership, Prepared Foods, Store Leadership, and other teams to establish efficient, financially responsible, and consistent catering practices. The role also provides direct Guest support and coordinates events as needed, but its principal responsibility, if designated exempt, must be the non-manual business administration and judgment-based duties described below.
Who you are
You are passionate about natural, organic, and specialty foods and model exceptional Guest service.
You exercise sound business judgment, evaluate alternatives, and take ownership of decisions within established authority.
You balance service quality, profitability, labor utilization, and operational capacity when making recommendations.
You can develop effective relationships with corporate clients, Guests, Store Leadership, and cross-functional teams.
You identify opportunities to improve systems and processes rather than relying only on established procedures.
You promote an inclusive environment and communicate expectations clearly and respectfully.
You are highly organized and can manage competing priorities, projects, and deadlines.
What you will bring
Experience analyzing catering sales, pricing, costs, budgets, operational trends, or service performance and recommending business improvements.
Ability to independently assess non-routine client and operational issues, compare available options, and select an appropriate course of action within delegated limits.
Strong working knowledge of catering operations, event planning, Foodservice, Online Ordering, BEOs, and corporate account management.
Ability to develop written procedures, reports, client proposals, menus, and business recommendations.
Strong communication, collaboration, negotiation, and project-management skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with catering systems, sales reports, and order-management platforms preferred.
An associate’s degree in Catering, Food Service, Business, or a related field strongly preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.
A minimum of two years of relevant catering, food service, account management, or operational leadership experience preferred.
Ability to work variable shifts, including nights, weekends, or holidays, as business needs require.
Excellent driving record preferred. Ability to stand or walk for extended periods, bend, stoop, climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs., and push/pull carts weighing up to 100 lbs. as needed.
What you will do
Analyze catering sales, product mix, labor requirements, food costs, client demand, and event performance; identify trends and recommend changes to support profitability and service goals.
Evaluate and recommend catering pricing, menu offerings, packages, minimums, and seasonal programs using cost, capacity, Guest demand, and margin information; implement approved changes within delegated authority.
Develop and improve catering operating procedures, order workflows, BEO accuracy controls, client communication standards, and event planning processes in partnership with Catering leadership.
Exercise independent judgment within defined financial and operational limits when resolving unusual catering requests, prioritizing competing event needs, selecting service approaches, and addressing significant client-service issues; escalate matters outside those limits.
Plan and coordinate assigned catering programs and large or complex events by assessing staffing, production capacity, scheduling, delivery, equipment, and execution risks; recommend adjustments and allocate resources within authorized parameters.
Prepare and present recurring catering business performance reports, including revenue, margins, order accuracy, recurring concerns, and opportunities for growth or cost control.
Develop proposals and business solutions for corporate accounts and special events; evaluate client requirements, service capabilities, and pricing options, and negotiate within approved parameters.
Identify opportunities for new client relationships, repeat business, and strategic outreach; plan and execute approved initiatives and assess results.
Partner with Prepared Foods and Catering leadership to review catering menu content, quantities, yields, pricing, item descriptions, and seasonal offerings.
Provide guidance to Team Members on catering standards, workflows, order accuracy, and event expectations; train and coach on established processes without assuming direct personnel-management authority unless separately assigned.
Monitor execution quality and investigate material order failures or event issues; determine corrective actions within delegated authority and recommend broader process changes.
Oversee accuracy and completeness of BEOs, client proposals, invoices, sales reports, and event information; coordinate necessary updates with operational teams.
Coordinate order processing, daily event communication, logistics, final order checks, and post-event follow-up; personally assist with event setup, transport, and other hands-on work when operationally necessary.
Ensure catering supplies, equipment, delivery plans, and third-party service requirements support approved catering operations.
Maintain professional Guest relationships, provide exceptional service, and follow all Plum Market policies and standard operating procedures.
