CONSTRUCTION SAFETY MANAGER
Since 1999, Delmarva Site Development, Inc. has been a recognized, full-service, self-performing heavy civil contractor in the Mid-Atlantic region. Specializing in site development and lime and cement stabilization, we serve clients in the military, government, commercial, residential, and data center markets.
We are seeking a proactive, innovative Construction Safety Manager to lead field safety efforts and support a strong culture of accountability and continuous improvement. This position requires a hands-on leader who can anticipate hazards, develop practical solutions, and work closely with field personnel and general contractors to meet project-specific safety expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct field safety audits, inspections, and regular jobsite visits to identify hazards and verify corrective actions.
Enforce company safety policies, applicable OSHA regulations, and general contractor and owner safety requirements.
Review and implement project-specific safety requirements for all types of projects, including required documentation, submittals, training, permits, and reporting.
Develop, review, and coordinate Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task plans, and work plans for high-risk construction activities.
Coordinate safety planning for excavation, underground utilities, confined space entry, lifting and rigging, and fall protection.
Coordinate with project teams and other trades to address overlapping operations, equipment and pedestrian traffic, restricted work areas, and changing site conditions.
Verify applicable permits, utility clearances, Monitor and Manage Miss Utility ticketing and clearance coordination.
Lead weekly safety meetings, toolbox talks, and new hire and project-specific orientations.
Perform and document incident and near-miss investigations, identify root causes, and follow through on corrective actions.
Conduct shop and yard inspections to ensure safe practices and conditions.
Ensure safe material handling, equipment use, and PPE compliance.
Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and subcontractors to resolve hazards and stop unsafe work when necessary.
Support safety training efforts, track certifications, and maintain accurate safety records and project-required submissions.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
A minimum of five years of field safety experience in construction, preferably in heavy civil construction, underground utilities, or Land development Projects.
Successful completion of OSHA 500 and current OSHA Construction Outreach Trainer authorization.
Hands-on knowledge of underground utility work, excavation hazards, and heavy equipment operations.
Strong communication, leadership, organization, and documentation skills.
Familiarity with DOT compliance, OSHA recordkeeping, and the Miss Utility process.
The ability to interpret project safety requirements and translate them into clear, practical direction for field crews.
The ability to maintain a strong field presence, manage competing priorities, and adapt to demanding construction schedules.
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
