About the Role:
The Manual Lathe Machinist in the steel industry plays a critical role in the manufacturing process by precisely shaping and fabricating steel components using manual lathe machines. This position requires a deep understanding of machining techniques, materials, and safety protocols to produce high-quality parts that meet exact specifications. The machinist will interpret blueprints and technical drawings to set up and operate manual lathes, ensuring dimensional accuracy and surface finish standards are consistently achieved. Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a manual lathe machinist, preferably in the steel or heavy manufacturing industry.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and machining specifications.
- Proficiency in using manual lathe machines and precision measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of safety standards and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship or vocational training program in machining or manufacturing technology.
- Experience working with various steel alloys and understanding their machining properties.
- Familiarity with basic computer skills for documentation and communication purposes.
- Certification from recognized machining or manufacturing organizations.
- Ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on manual lathe equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate manual lathe machines to cut, shape, and finish steel components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machining requirements and sequence of operations.
- Perform precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, and other inspection tools to ensure parts meet quality standards.
- Maintain and adjust machine settings to optimize performance and address any machining issues or defects.
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area to promote a safe manufacturing environment.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality control teams to resolve production challenges and improve machining processes.
- Document production activities, including machine maintenance, part measurements, and any deviations from specifications.
