LHH Recruitment Solutions A growing organization in the utility, construction, and field services industry is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to join its team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing for employees supporting project-based operations, including union workforce payroll and specialized off-cycle payments. The ideal candidate will have strong payroll expertise, experience working with complex pay structures, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive deadlines. Senior Payroll Specialist
Location: Greater Montgomery County, PA Area
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday through Friday | Onsite
Compensation: $28-$38/hour, depending on experience
Key Responsibilities - Process biweekly, weekly, and off-cycle payrolls for multiple employee groups
- Administer payroll for union and project-based employees
- Manage payroll calculations, deductions, garnishments, and union-related requirements
- Ensure employees are paid accurately and in compliance with applicable regulations and labor agreements
- Review payroll data for accuracy and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and research payroll-related issues
- Maintain payroll records, reports, and supporting documentation
- Partner with Human Resources, Accounting, and Operations teams to ensure accurate payroll processing
- Assist with payroll audits, reporting, reconciliations, and compliance initiatives
- Support special projects and process improvement efforts within the payroll function
Specialized Payroll Requirements This position supports employees working on emergency response and project-based assignments. Certain union agreements require payroll to be processed within strict timelines following project completion. As a result:
- Flexibility is required to support occasional off-cycle payroll processing
- Limited evening, weekend, or holiday payroll activity may be necessary when projects conclude outside of standard business hours
- Remote access may be available when after-hours payroll support is needed
Qualifications - 3+ years of payroll processing experience required
- Experience processing union payroll strongly preferred
- Background in construction, utilities, infrastructure, industrial services, transportation, or field-service environments is highly desirable
- Experience with payroll platforms such as Paychex, ADP, UKG, or similar systems
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, tax requirements, and compliance practices
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
