Engineer – Technical Professional II
Location: Auburn Hills, MI – Auburn Hills Engineering
Assignment: September 28, 2026 – September 27, 2027, or 1 Year once started, with possible extension.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid/Remote with occasional onsite support and travel

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Engineer – Technical Professional II to design, develop, and validate air intake systems for internal combustion engine and hybrid electrified vehicles. This engineer will work across the full product development lifecycle, coordinating CAD design, CAE, prototyping, supplier activities, and physical testing to ensure components meet engine and vehicle-level performance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and validate automotive air intake systems and components.
- Support systems through various stages of vehicle development, including early packaging and component design.
- Coordinate CAD design, CAE, prototyping, physical testing, and technical documentation.
- Work with suppliers to track development, part maturity, milestones, and deliverables.
- Lead and coordinate supplier activities to ensure program objectives are met.
- Develop and apply DFMEAs and DVP&Rs to identify and minimize product and development risks.
- Support sourcing activities as assigned.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, suppliers, and engineering groups.
- Provide occasional onsite support at engine and vehicle assembly plants.
- Support quality concerns, process change validation, and technical cost-reduction/value optimization after vehicle launch.
- Manage multiple engineering activities and programs simultaneously.
- Communicate technical information clearly through written documentation, presentations, and meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET-accredited program.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage suppliers.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities.
- Ability to work independently in a remote or hybrid environment.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, generally within the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Required Technical Skills
- Working knowledge of automotive air intake systems and components.
- General knowledge of CAD design.
- Experience creating and applying DFMEAs and DVP&Rs.
- Strong organizational and project-tracking skills.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and presentation software.
- Ability to proactively communicate with engineering teams, stakeholders, suppliers, and management.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience with air intake systems or related engine/vehicle-level testing.
- Experience with testing such as:
- NVH
- Rise-Over Ambient
- Water-fording
- Other engine/vehicle performance validation
- Experience with plastics manufacturing processes and tooling, particularly:
- Injection molding
- Blow molding
- Knowledge of Stellantis engineering systems and processes.
- Green Belt certification or equivalent experience with DFSS / Design for Six Sigma.
- Familiarity with powertrain software and controls.
- Working knowledge of UG/NX CAD systems.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on automotive engineer with strong air intake/powertrain experience, supplier management skills, and experience taking components from early design and packaging through validation and production. Candidates who can work cross-functionally, manage multiple priorities, and independently drive supplier and engineering deliverables will be especially well suited for this role.
