Northern Va and MD
Full-Time | $32-$40/hour + Project Performance Bonuses
About the Opportunity
We are a growing Plumbing, Heating & Air company in Northern Virginia, and we’re looking for an experienced, well-rounded plumber to help lead and develop our plumbing department.
This is not strictly a service technician position, and it’s not a desk supervisor position.
We’re looking for someone who has spent years in the plumbing trade, understands new construction and service plumbing, can manage projects and people, communicate professionally with customers, general contractors and inspectors, and isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty when necessary.
Our plumbing service department is still growing, so initially a significant portion of this position will involve managing residential construction projects and our plumbing crews. As our service department grows, this person will also help develop and lead that side of the business.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Oversee plumbing projects from start through completion
- Supervise, guide and mentor our plumbing crews
- Coordinate labor, materials and job-site needs
- Read plans and understand new-construction plumbing
- Coordinate with GCs, inspectors and other trades
- Help ensure projects stay within labor and material budgets
- Identify potential job-site problems before they become expensive problems
- Perform quality-control checks and prepare projects for inspections
- Handle plumbing service calls when needed
- Diagnose plumbing problems and recommend appropriate solutions
- Communicate options and pricing professionally with customers
- Understand the sales side of service plumbing without high-pressure selling
- Assist in planning manpower and upcoming plumbing work
- Step into the field and work alongside the crew when necessary
- Help Us improve procedures and build a stronger plumbing department
Who We’re Looking For
We’re especially interested in someone with significant real-world plumbing experience who has reached a point in their career where leadership, stability and doing quality work matter.
The ideal candidate has:
- 7+ years of plumbing experience preferred
- Strong new-construction plumbing knowledge is a Plus+
- Residential service experience a MUST
- Previous foreman, lead plumber or supervisory experience preferred
- Ability to read drawings and understand plumbing layouts
- Knowledge of plumbing codes and proper installation practices
- Experience dealing with inspectors and general contractors
- Good understanding of labor, materials and job profitability
- Strong troubleshooting ability
- Good customer communication skills
- An understanding of plumbing service sales
- Ability to lead without constantly needing owner supervision
- Strong accountability and professional judgment
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Virginia Journeyman is highly preferred
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who takes ownership. If something doesn’t look right, we want someone who speaks up, investigates it and helps solve the problem rather than simply saying, “That’s what I was told to do.”
Compensation
Base compensation: approximately $32–$40/hour + Bonuses, depending on experience and qualifications.
But we don’t want compensation to stop at hourly pay.
This position will also have the opportunity to earn project-performance bonuses based on profitable projects successfully managed to completion.
Our philosophy is simple:
When you help successfully manage a profitable project, we want you to share in the success.
Bonuses will be structured to reward strong project management while protecting company margins.
As our plumbing service department grows, additional service-sales performance incentives may also become available.
Apply with your resume and a brief description of your plumbing, construction, service and leadership experience.
