Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough physical examinations and patient assessments to determine health status and identify medical conditions.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans aligned with best practices and clinical guidelines.
- Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with state regulations and collaborative practice agreements, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and DEA regulations.
- Manage acute and chronic illnesses across various specialties including internal medicine, geriatrics, behavioral health, emergency medicine, and critical care settings.
- Perform procedures such as suturing, IV insertion, catheterization, spinal taps, dermal fillers, Botox treatments (botulinum toxin), and sterile processing when necessary.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation and patient records management.
- Provide patient education on disease prevention, medication administration, nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and health coaching to promote overall wellness.
- Participate in clinical research projects or quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care standards.
- Engage in telehealth consultations to extend access to care for remote or underserved populations.
- Ensure compliance with all healthcare laws including Workers' Compensation law and NCQA standards while maintaining the highest levels of infection control and aseptic technique.
Skills
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Office Ally, Cerner, Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks for efficient documentation.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology (including CPT coding), and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Experience working in diverse clinical environments including hospital medicine (Level I & II trauma centers), emergency rooms (ER), ICU/PICU units, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or outpatient clinics.
- Skilled in performing medical procedures such as venipuncture (phlebotomy), tube feeding management, ventilator support troubleshooting, sterile processing techniques, and dermal filler injections.
- Ability to manage complex cases involving acute pain management, infectious disease care (including COVID-19 protocols), hospice & palliative medicine or geriatrics.
- Excellent client communication skills with the ability to educate patients of all ages including pediatrics (toddler care), neonatal ventilator management or neonatal intensive care units (NICU).
- Familiarity with medical coding systems like ICD-9/10 for accurate diagnosis documentation; experience with CPT codes is preferred.
- Knowledge of occupational health protocols including triage procedures and workplace injury assessments under Workers' Compensation law.
- Capable of performing diagnostic procedures such as sonography or spinal taps; experience with laboratory specimen collection/processing is advantageous.
