About the Opportunity
Are you a naturally curious problem solver who loves taking things apart, understanding how complex mechanisms work, and figuring out puzzles that stump everyone else?
We are partnering with an established, premier regional physical security and locksmith provider that has protected commercial, banking, and residential clients for decades. We are seeking a patient, mechanically minded Safe & Vault Service Technician to join their specialized security division.
Safe and vault servicing is one of the most elite, respected, and recession-proof niches in the security trade. This isn't assembly-line work or simple part swapping. It is precision mechanical diagnostics, tactical drilling, lock scoping, and puzzle-solving. Whether you are an experienced safe technician or a meticulous mechanical troubleshooter eager to master a rare craft, we provide the specialized tooling, mentorship, and environment for you to build a lifelong career.
Why Join This Team?
- Master a Rare, High-Value Trade: Receive direct mentorship and specialized training on safe opening techniques, dial manipulation, vault mechanics, and electronic lock retrofits.
- Challenging, Non-Repetitive Work: Every service call is a unique mechanical puzzle requiring a blend of exact blueprints, precise measurements, and on-the-spot improvisation.
- Full Tooling & Vehicle Backing: Operate with dedicated service vehicles, specialized drill rigs, endoscopes, and diagnostic tools.
- Comprehensive Benefits Package: Competitive hourly pay, health insurance, retirement plan with company match, paid time off, and company-sponsored industry certifications.
- Supportive & Autonomous Culture: We give you the autonomy to solve tough problems on-site without micromanagement.
What You Will Do
- Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical failures, jammed bolt work, relocker activations, and electronic lock malfunctions on residential, commercial, depository, and high-security safes.
- Precision Penetration & Opening: Set up specialized magnetic drill rigs, perform exact measurements, and drill target barrier points to open locked security containers with minimal cosmetic or structural damage.
- Repair & Restoration: Repair drilled openings back to original security ratings, replace worn components, service mechanical dial combinations, and retrofit legacy locks to modern electronic digital keypad systems.
- Installations & Moves: Measure, anchor, and bolt down heavy safes and depository units in commercial and residential settings adhering to strict security specifications.
- Customer Interaction: Walk clients through combination setups, demonstrate proper lock operation, and maintain complete confidentiality and professionalism on site.
What We Are Looking For
The Problem-Solving Mindset (Critical):
- Mechanical Intuition & "Puzzle Solver" Mindset: You enjoy intricate mechanical systems, understanding internal lock geometry, and figuring out why a complex mechanism isn't functioning.
- Patience & Composure Under Pressure: Safe work involves frustrating moments where things don't go as planned. You are determined, calm, and able to reset and approach a problem from a new angle rather than getting flustered.
- Adaptable & Resourceful: High ability to improvise safe, creative solutions in the field when standard manufacturer instructions encounter real-world variables.
- Teachable & Disciplined: Able to follow detailed technical drilling diagrams and security guidelines with exceptional precision.
Technical Baseline & Logistics:
- Hands-On Mechanical Aptitude: Proven baseline experience using hand tools, precision measuring instruments (calipers, tape measures), drill presses, or handheld power drills (backgrounds in locksmithing, machining, gunsmithing, automotive diagnostics, or precision assembly translate well).
- Meticulous Attention to Detail: Precise measurements are the difference between hitting a 1/4-inch lock gate and missing entirely.
- Physical Capability: Ability to lift, maneuver, and anchor heavy security equipment (50+ lbs) and work in varied physical positions.
- Security & Background Requirements: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check (due to the sensitive nature of high-security access).
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Structure: Competitive hourly rate commensurate with mechanical aptitude and trade experience (plus overtime opportunities)
- Health Coverage: Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance options
- Retirement: 401(k) retirement plan with company match
- Time Off: Paid vacation, sick time, and paid company holidays
- Equipment: Company service vehicle, specialized safe-opening tooling, and safety gear provided
