Position Overview
HPA Healthcare is seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant for a 16-week locum tenens assignment in North Carolina beginning November 16, 2026.
This highly procedural opportunity requires recent endoscopic vein harvesting and surgical first-assist experience. The PA will support a busy cardiothoracic program performing CABG, robotic thoracic/chest procedures, open valve surgery, and TAVR procedures.
The PA will also work closely with an Advanced Heart Failure team and may participate in LVAD and Impella placements.
Regular clinical coverage is Monday–Friday, 0700–1500, with required weeknight and weekend call.
Assignment Highlights

- Monday–Friday, 0700–1500
- Weeknight call approximately 1:4
- Minimum one weekend of call per month
- Approximately 15–25 inpatients
- Approximately 5–8 CABGs per week
- Approximately 4–6 robotic thoracic/chest cases
- Open valve and TAVR procedures
- EVH required
- Surgical first assist required
- Advanced Heart Failure exposure
- Potential LVAD and Impella placements
- Epic required
- Active North Carolina license required
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
