Job OverviewPenFed is hiring a VP, Corporate Strategy to work onsite at our Tysons, Virginia location. The Vice President, Corporate Strategy is responsible for shaping and driving the credit union's enterprise-wide strategic agenda to ensure sustainable growth, strong risk-adjusted performance, and long-term member value. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the VP will lead strategic planning processes, conduct deep-dive market analyses, partner with Corporate Development to evaluate M&A and partnership opportunities, and provide thought leadership on emerging trends impacting the financial services industry. This role combines rigorous analytical capabilities with business acumen to identify growth opportunities, evaluate competitive positioning, and drive strategic decision-making across the organization. It requires a strategic thinker who can translate complex market dynamics into actionable recommendations that advance our mission while maintaining our competitive edge in an evolving landscape.

Strategic Planning & Analysis- Lead the annual strategic planning process, facilitating executive sessions and board strategic discussions to establish multi-year strategic priorities and performance targets.
- Translate mission, vision, and board-defined objectives into clear strategic choices, tradeoffs, and execution roadmaps.
- Develop comprehensive external market analyses examining macroeconomic trends, competitive dynamics, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies impacting the credit union industry.
- Partner with business unit leaders to translate enterprise strategy into divisional strategies with measurable objectives and key results.
- Partner with technology leadership to align innovation roadmaps with strategic priorities and competitive positioning.
Board & Executive Support- Prepare board-level presentations, white papers, and strategic briefings that synthesize complex information into clear, actionable recommendations.
- as a trusted advisor to the CEO, CFO, and executive team on strategic matters, competitive threats, and growth opportunities.
- Support board committees with strategic analyses and recommendations on key decisions including capital allocation, risk appetite, and major investments.
Market Intelligence & Competitive Positioning- Maintain ongoing surveillance of the competitive landscape, including traditional banks, FinTech's, and non-bank competitors, identifying threats and opportunities for differentiation.
- Analyze industry trends, consumer behavior shifts, and technological disruptions to inform strategic responses and innovation priorities.
- Develop frameworks for evaluating product portfolio performance, market share dynamics, and member value propositions relative to competitors.
Growth Strategy, Portfolio Prioritization, & Business Development- Evaluate and prioritize enterprise growth initiatives across lending, deposits, digital channels, partnerships, and new products.
- Assess risk-adjusted returns, capital implications, and operational feasibility of strategic investments.
- Support enterprise portfolio management to ensure resources are aligned with the highest value initiatives.
- Partner with Corporate Development for potential mergers, acquisitions, and partnership opportunities, including financial modeling and integration planning.
- Partner with the business to develop business cases for major strategic investments, including technologies, product launches, and market entry strategies.
Strategy Execution & Performance Management- Establish strategic KPIs and scorecards to track progress against enterprise objectives.
- Partner with Finance and the EPMO to ensure strategy is embedded in operating plans, budgets, and performance management processes.
- Identify risks to strategic execution and recommend course corrections.
Thought Leadership- Representing the credit union at industry conferences and forums, building external networks and staying current on best practices
- Develop internal thought leadership content on strategic topics to build organizational strategic thinking capabilities.
- Mentor and develop strategic thinking skills across the organization through formal and informal channels.
- Helps safeguard PenFed's computer and IT systems by monitoring staff adherence of all security policies and related training for individuals managed by this role. Take appropriate action working with IT Security and HR when necessary to address any security breaches.
Qualifications Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
- Minimum of bachelor's degree in business or related field, required.
- Master's in business administration, preferred.
- Minimum fifteen (15) years of work experience in business development or related high-growth roles, with at least ten (10) years in strategy/consulting.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in a director role.
- Proven track record in driving growth, financial modeling (NPV, IRR) and advising C-Suite Executives
- Must possess strong strategic thinking skills.
- Experience in utilizing financial modeling tools, data analytics platforms and strategic planning frameworks.
- Excellent written and verbal skills, ability to distill complex data into strategic narratives for executives.
- Strong Business Acumen with a deep understanding of business operations, financial metrics and market dynamics.
- Previous experience in the financial services industry, preferred.
Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position will supervise employees.
Licenses and CertificationsChartered Financial Analyst (CFA) preferred.
