Job Summary:
Functions under the direction of the clinical coordinator and/or department manager. The interventional special procedures technologist assists with providing safe, age appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department according to department procedures. The technologist has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. He/she is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. The technologist is able to independently perform job functions. He/she sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure. Able to perform procedures in both the IR and vascular hybrid interventional procedural setting.

Clinical SkillsCompletion of VI competenciesAble to use critical thinking skillsWork in conjunction with radiologists/ vascular surgeons/ cardiologistsPreps the patient for procedureDemonstrates and understands sterile techniquePrepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedureEnters appropriate charges for supplies and procedures (SIM CODES)Departmental ResponsibilitiesMust be flexible with hours to meet departmental needsAble to work scheduled and On-CallKnows existing lines of communication and authorityHandles communications properlyIntroduces self to patient and/or guardian utilizing proper scripting ie. AIDETTransports patients as neededProvides privacy and comfort for patient/customersAssists with maintenance of departmental records, Joint Commission standards, State and Federal Regulations and performance ImprovementCompletes necessary paperworkAnswers departmental phone using proper scriptingMaintains stock levels and outdatesMaintain current License and BLS certificationsAssist in inservice/training for other medical imaging staff as appropriateWorks as a team with other VI staff to obtain the best possible outcomePerforms any other duties as needed when asks by leadershipQuality and Patient SafetyVerifies patient ID using 2 patient identifiers, ie. Armband, DOB, verbal identificationVerifies front of patient chart for same/similar name stickerVerifies Written Order and Consent, seeks clarification if order or consent unclearUses and understands preprocedural verification/ time out formUnderstands and complies with site/ side marking when indicatedPatient EducationResponsible for patient, family/support system educationProvide post procedural home care instructions as neededPerforms other duties as assignedComplies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma General or GED General or Accredited Program Radiologic Technology
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- ARRT-R - ARRT Radiography or ARRT-S - ARRT Sonography
- BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
Required Minimum Experience:
Minimum 1 year experience in Diagnostic Radiology Required
