Overview: Delivers and coordinates the standardized new hire Nursing orientation program for licensed and unlicensed coworkers. Responsible for developing and updating the core program in alignment with evidenced based practice.
Develops a comprehensive orientation plan for newly hired licensed and unlicensed coworkers
o Coordinates scheduling of new hires for orientation requirements
o Documents initial orientation competency and education completion
o Communicates with leaders on delinquent education requirements.
• Creates a climate conducive to learning by fostering a good relationship with learners in a diverse environment
Maintains proficiency in adult teaching strategies and education tools/methods (virtual/in-person) that develop and enhance critical thinking skills (e.g. mock events, simulation, writing case scenarios, etc.)
• Partners with peers in delivering other Mercy education efforts:
o Delivers hospital and regional residencies curriculums as needed
o Serves as adjunct faculty with academic School of Nursing partners
• Role models Mercy’s culture, promoting excellence and safety
• Uses effective communication skills, including conflict resolution, negotiation, problem solving, and resourcing.
Minimum Required:
• If Bachelor's degree has been attained, 2 years' clinical experience is required. If associate's degree is the highest level of degree attained, 10 years hospital nursing experience or 5 years' hospital nursing experience if active enrollment in a RN to BSN program.
• Current appropriate state license if required in discipline.
• AHA BLS provider.
• Demonstrates clinical knowledge related to evidence-based practice with the credibility to positively influence the delivery of patient care.
• Proven ability to organize and multitask to meet project deadlines.
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of audiovisual equipment is an advantage.
• Knowledge of equipment/technology used in delivery of patient care.
Preferred:
• 2 years teaching experience.
