Job Description

We Give You the Keys, the Support, and the Respect. You Bring the Tools.

Modern Diesel in Austin is looking for a dependable B-tech who wants to be treated like an adult, earn overtime, and grow with a company that puts the techs first.

At Modern Diesel in Austin, we believe a business only succeeds when the crew turning the wrenches succeeds first. We are a fast-growing, independent, veteran-owned, and Christian-rooted diesel repair facility in East Austin. We treat our team like adults: we give you serious autonomy, provide top-tier backing, and reward high performers with real earnings and genuine room to advance. When the company wins, our employees see the upside before management does.

We are looking for a dependable, motivated B-Level Mobile Diesel Mechanic to operate a fully equipped service truck, tackle field and roadside breakdowns, and capitalize on abundant overtime opportunities across Central Texas.

Prefer turning wrenches in the shop? We are also hiring In-Shop Heavy-Duty Diesel Technicians at our facility for diagnostics, engine overhauls, emissions/aftertreatment, and major component repairs. Apply Today.

What You’ll Do on the Road

You are the frontline face of Modern Diesel—the technician stranded drivers, local fleets, and job sites count on to get wheels rolling again:

Mobile Maintenance: Handle PMs (Fluids, Filters, etc) and inspections at customer facilities.
Commercial Tires & Wheel Assemblies: Handle roadside and customer yard tire patches, swaps, repairs, and replacements across passenger and commercial steer, drive, and trailer tires.
Air Brake Systems: Diagnose, replace, and adjust brake shoes, drums, S-cams, automatic slack adjusters, and air chambers; ensure all repairs are fully DOT-compliant.
Air Leak Troubleshooting & Repair: Hunt down and repair leaks across supply/delivery lines, push-to-connect fittings, relay valves, governors, compressors, and air dryers.
Field Diagnostics & Minor Repairs: Troubleshoot mechanical issues on-site at customer yards, construction job sites, and highway breakdown scenes.
Service Truck Management: Keep your assigned service truck stocked, clean, organized, and road-ready at all times.
Clean Documentation: Track parts accurately, snap before/after job photos, and complete digital work orders cleanly using a phone based application

Why Techs Choose Modern Diesel

We take care of our people's personal needs with an honest, transparent benefits package:

Hourly Pay + Heavy Overtime: Straight-forward hourly compensation with abundant overtime available for technicians who want to grind and maximize their take-home pay.
100% Employer-Paid Base Health Insurance: Your basic health coverage is completely paid by the company for full-time employees. You keep what you earn rather than watching hundreds vanish from your check each pay period.
401(k) with Company Match: Direct company contribution matching to help grow your long-term retirement savings.
Dedicated Service Truck & Heavy Tooling: Modern, reliable service truck equipped with a high-output air compressor, commercial jacks, air lines, and roadside safety equipment.
Real Shop Support: You are never left stranded on a tough call. Our Austin shop team and senior mechanics are just a radio call or phone call away when you need parts, advice, or an extra set of hands.
Paid Time Off & Family Leave: Dedicated PTO, paid holidays, and flexible family leave policies.
Uniforms Provided: Company-provided uniforms covered upon hire.
Fast Career Growth: As a fast-growing company, senior leadership and specialized roles open up from within first.
Culture Built on Integrity: A veteran-friendly, faith-rooted shop culture that values straight talk, honest work, and pride in the trade.

What We Need from You

Minimum 2 Years Experience: Proven experience operating a roadside service truck.
B-Tech Skill Level: Capable of diagnosing and completing repairs on commercial tires, air systems, and air brakes independently without step-by-step supervision.
Solid DOT & Air Brake Knowledge: Clear understanding of FMCSA/DOT out-of-service criteria, wheel-end torque specs, and air brake operation.
Your Own Tools: Must have your own complete set of standard hand tools and pneumatic/cordless tools suitable for heavy-duty commercial service. Air Compressors and heavy tools will be provided as installed and truck equipment
Clean Driving Record: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving history to operate company commercial service vehicles.
Texas Field Readiness: Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, with the flexibility to take scheduled on-call and after-hours rotations when fleet customers need emergency service.
